Learning Indonesian – English Thru’ Nasheed / Nasyid
Assalamualikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.
Hi, I’m Cahyo from Lawang– the beautiful and cold city in East Java Indonesia. Well I just want to tell you why I made this blog.
The first reason is – I want to practice my english, especially in writing. I like writing so much – so that’s why I join the writing club called Forum Lingkar Pena (FLP) and my friend asked my as the board counselor in FLP Malang branch. I have made a blog in http://hmcahyo.wordpress.com but mostly written in Bahasa. Actually there’s english category on that blog, but I’m not satisfied enough since I can’t focus on writing english on that blog.
Then, the second. I’ve been so long thinking what kind of my english blog will be? What should I write? What topics and so on? The idea that came to mind is writing about my hobby: testing linux distros – you know I have many linux distros and have tested almost of them but I think I’m just newbie in linux-sphere, so it will be difficult to me to write more about linux. Another hobby of mine is also testing any software – of course in windoz operating system. I have tested many softwares, form multimedia, desktop publishing and utilities. I like free and opensource software from http://sourceforge.net But then I think it not to interesting to be writen, even someday I will write litte about that on this blog – especially when I think it has relation with the mission of this blog.
I think and think so hard to find what will I write? After along time googling and blogwalking I finnaly find what kind of writing I should post here. Yes It’s all about nasheed / nasyid.
Why nasheed?
Yes, because I love it. But of course if I only write the lyrics of the nasheed, there are many blog which have the same content. So I come to think again what should I post here?
Yup, I find it!
When I was student of senior high school and when I was studying at university. My friend and I used to made parody by changing the lyrics of the top hits song. We do it for fun. Then I realized that what I’ve done with the lyrics could improve dan usage of my english vocabularies. That’s why when I’m teaching I often encourage my student to do what I’ve done when I was student.
Some of the students I like what I’ve sugesested to them, and of course their english is gardually improve by practicing.
So that is the reason why I made this blog, I hope it can help you to learn indonesian – for the english reader – as well as learning english – for indonesian reader.
And why should be nasheed?
Because I’m muslim – I always have consideration in choosing what kind of lyrics that I I teach to my students. As you know that many of the lyrics of the famous songs often againts islamic values that’s why I prefer using the nasheed lyrics on this blog. Of course it’s only my poin of view, you may disagree with me and it must be OK.
Then i choose many indonesian nasheed lyrics – not malaysian – on this blog just because I want to promote them, the other reason is there some different meaning between indonesian and malaysian’s nasheed epsecially on it’s lyrics. However it doesn’t mean that I won’t to put the malaysian nasheed here – of course I will make some note on that lyrics (so help me to do it as I sometimes don’t know malaysian words).
